Thanks from Catholic Charities

Thanks all who contributed to Catholic Charities to help the many children taken in after being separat-ed from their families at the border. The children thank you as well! They were overwhelmed by everyone's generosity. Our agency is proud to be supported by so many volunteers, staff, and donors who have stepped up to aid these children. CCFW received over 75 inquiries from families interested in fostering—which we very much need—not just for unaccompanied children but for our refugee children. We have received close to 1,000 hygiene kits that will be used to welcome unaccompanied children now and in the future. We have sent a staff person to support the Humanitarian Respite Center in McAllen, TX, operated by Catholic Charities Rio Grande Valley. That staff member is working hard to help refugees from Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador. He reports that most families are in McAllen for a short time before they continue on their journey to be with extended family. At the Humanitarian Respite Center, refugees are given a hot meal, a new set of clothes, minor medical care, and a shower. Then, a lawyer advises them about their rights and upcoming court case. There isn't a more tangible way to show Christ's compassion than feeding the hungry, clothing the travel worn, and providing shelter to the homeless. For more info, please visit our blog. There you’ll find updates and a statement from our Bishop. Thank you.
